The Kansas City Chiefs kicked off the 2021 campaign with a thrilling victory on Sunday, completing a 12-point comeback to defeat the Cleveland Browns at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
The victory has the Chiefs in the win column to begin the year and positioned them at the top of the various "power rankings" from around the web. In fact, the experts at ESPN and Yahoo! Sports each placed Kansas City at No. 1 in their rankings following the first week of action.
Dan Hanzus of NFL.com, meanwhile, ranked the Chiefs at No. 2 behind only the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Here's a portion of what he had to say about Kansas City's victory on Sunday:
"Patrick Mahomes is a football genius. How else can you explain that impossible downfield heave that resulted in Tyreek Hill's 75-yard touchdown in Sunday's comeback win over the Browns? Mahomes is a relentless force."
The folks at The Ringer also slotted Kansas City in at No. 2 in their rankings this week, citing Mahomes' poise in seemingly the most difficult of moments.
"At no point in the game did it ever occur to me that Kansas City would lose. That's the spell this Mahomes-led group has cast over the years, and it goes deeper than the side-arm throws, the out-of-structure genius, and the downfield bombs that have come to define Mahomes as a passer. Instead, it was one of Mahomes' less tangible but exceedingly crucial traits that really stood out in Kansas City's win on Sunday: his complete and total inability to panic."
