The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the Coach of the Week honors for the seventh week of the 2024 season. The Week Seven awards went to Blue Springs South High School Head Coach Alan Wilmes (Missouri) and Olathe South High School Head Coach Ron Litchfield (Kansas).
As a result of this honor, the awarded schools will receive a $500 grant from the Hunt Family Foundation. Additionally, the coaches will be presented a pair of sunglasses, courtesy of Oakley, and a certificate recognizing their selection. These coaches are now qualified for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which will be voted on later this fall. The Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award is selected by a panel comprised of the Missouri and Kansas Boards from the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association.
Blue Springs South High School beat rival Blue Springs High School 30-20 to move to 5-2 on the season. The Jaguars have rebounded from a 1-9 mark in 2023 and are currently the No. 4 team in the Missouri Class 6 High School Football rankings. Wilmes said his team has stayed with the process and continued to improve.
"We are honored to accept the prestigious award of Chiefs Coach of the Week," Wilmes said. "This is a testament to the hard work that our coaches, players, athletic trainers, managers, and the entire school and community put in each day. It takes a village to run a successful program, and we have an amazing group of people who make our success possible. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of the process and our journey this season."
Olathe South High School defeated Lawrence High School 40-28 for its second win of the season. After a 0-4 start, the Falcons have won two of their last three. Litchfield shared that the honor was for the entire program.
"It's really a credit to our coaching staff and our players continuing to work hard and improve every day" Litchfield said.
