The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the Coach of the Week honors for the sixth week of the 2024 season. The Week Six awards went to Pleasant Hill High School Head Coach Justin Hamilton (Missouri) and Blue Valley High School Head Coach Allen Terrell (Kansas).
As a result of this honor, the awarded schools will receive a $500 grant from the Hunt Family Foundation. Additionally, the coaches will be presented a pair of sunglasses, courtesy of Oakley, and a certificate recognizing their selection. These coaches are now qualified for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which will be voted on later this fall. The Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award is selected by a panel comprised of the Missouri and Kansas Boards from the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association.
Pleasant Hill High School beat Odessa High School 42-21 for the team's fourth straight win after starting the season 1-2. The Roosters coach said the success is a result of the hard work from everyone in the program.
"We are honored and humbled to have the Pleasant Hill football program recognized by the Kansas City Chiefs," Hamilton said. "We are fortunate to have great kids and assistant coaches who put in countless hours to continue to improve every week of the season. We have a fantastic community that supports our kids both on and off the field, along with support from our administration, parents, school board, youth football organization and staff. This award recognizes the efforts of every individual that allows our kids to have the opportunities and success they have. I am proud to be able to accept this award on behalf of our football program and would like to thank the Kansas City Chiefs organization for acknowledging our student-athletes and PrepsKC for their continued coverage of high school football."
Blue Valley High School defeated Blue Valley Northwest High School 27-21 in a tough battle. The Tigers are now 5-1 on the season and have won three straight games after suffering a loss to an undefeated St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Week Three. Terrell said this is a team accolade.
"It's a privilege for our staff to be selected for this award," Terrell shared. "Every one of our players and our entire coaching staff worked relentlessly in preparation for such a talented opponent. This award is a team honor that we are very grateful to receive."
