The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the Coach of the Week honors for the 10th week of the 2024 season. The Week 10 awards went to Liberty High School Head Coach Chad Frigon (Missouri) and Shawnee Mission Northwest High School Head Coach Bo Black (Kansas).
As a result of this honor, the awarded schools will receive a $500 grant from the Hunt Family Foundation. Additionally, the coaches will be presented a pair of sunglasses, courtesy of Oakley, and a certificate recognizing their selection. These coaches are now qualified for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which will be voted on later this fall. The Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award is selected by a panel comprised of the Missouri and Kansas Boards from the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association.
Liberty High School beat Liberty North High School 13-10 to advance to the Missouri Class 6 District 7 championship game. It was the second time this season Liberty defeated its rival, and it ended Liberty North's reign as defending Missouri Class 6 champions. Coach Frigon said this honor was for the entire community.
"We really appreciate the Kansas City Chiefs recognizing our staff and for all the Chiefs do for our community," Frigon shared. "As a lifelong Chiefs fan, it is especially meaningful to be acknowledged with this award."
Shawnee Mission Northwest High School topped Olathe East High School with a 21-7 win to move into the Kansas Class 6A District quarterfinals. They will take on Blue Valley West High School next. It was the seventh straight win for the Cougars, and Coach Black said it's all due to the support the program receives.
"It is an honor to receive the Chiefs Coach of the Week on behalf of a great group of assistants and the quality young people in our football program," Black shared. "Our principal Dr. Lisa Gruman and Athletic Director Angelo Giacalone provide a culture at Shawnee Mission Northwest that is conducive to winning. Our authentic group of seniors are a true joy to be around. They always put the team first and provide leadership daily. Thank you to KC Preps and the Chiefs organization."
In its 28th season, the 2024 High School Coach of the Week is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League. This program is designed to recognize and reward Kansas City area high school coaches for superior performance on a weekly basis while honoring individuals who are shaping today's youth and tomorrow's leaders.
