"Voice of the Chiefs" Mitch Holthus hosted his weekly **Chiefs Kingdom Radio Show**, which can be heard locally on Sports Radio 810 WHB, on Monday night with special guest, Chiefs former linebacker, Shawn Barber aka "The Barber Shop."
Here are a few highlights from the show:
Call Marvel. The Avengers Have Been Found.
Most people have heard, Allen Bailey "The Hulk" is back after missing him for the stretch of the run last year due to a pectoral injury. If you haven't, see @ChiefsReporter’s tweet below.
Add in the combination of the rest of the D-line, and man, there's nothing but depth and a strong wall.
*"It gets scary when you start to envision what can happen, what can happen when guys start really having just a certain level of confidence in one another, that every down, every pass play, the same pressure is going to be created. Every running down, the same penetration is going to be created. *
*"The most beautiful thing I saw, as far as up front, was when #77 had a flag on the play. They get another set of downs and the defense is stoned over and over. It's like take 12 downs, take 20 downs. If you keep running this ball, our front is just going to keep stuffing you. And that kind of confidence is what you want in the preseason. That's what you want in the offseason, to build that confidence in one another, and let them know it doesn't matter how close to the goal line, unless you're over it, it's not a touchdown. *
"So that's what I see in our front guys, just having their confidence, their energy and this ability to just feed off one another, like the Avengers do. When they come together, great things happen." – Shawn Barber
Keeping Up with Conley.
Because he's on the next level.
Chiefs wide receiver Chris Conley had himself a camp, which has transferred over to preseason games.
And people noticed.
*"I don't think there's a difference in the way that I prepare. I think every year you're in the league you understand a little bit more what it takes to be the kind of player that you want to be, and not only the player you want to be, but that your team needs you to be. I think that's guided my offseason preparation. I think it's guiding the way I'm practicing in this camp and that has nothing to do with the expectations people have on me. I'm going to prepare every day, I'm going to study and I'm going to come out here and give my all. When it comes down to making plays, I'm going to make them. So that's just football." *–Chris Conley
Then the Barber Shop really brought it home on why Conley is taking it to the next level.
"I see a guy that wants the ball in the big downs. He doesn't want to just make a block to open someone up, he doesn't want to be a guy who runs through a zone to create something for Kelce. He wants it to be 'I'm the primary. Come at me. Bring it my way. I don't care who's guarding me. Give me the top corners in the league, let me show you what my athleticism can do against them.' That's what I love about him."
Defense Runs in the Barber Family.
And the next Bennie Logan has been found.
Barber has six kids, all very talented, but the steam roller is the youngest one.
*"My youngest is the one who's going to be the next Bennie Logan. My youngest one is the force, he wrecks the house and he doesn't take anyone from anybody. He'll put his head in your gut in a heartbeat. He has a hard head and a big backside to bring it. He's going to take care of my bills when I get old." *–Shawn Barber
