It's been a busy week for Kansas City Chiefs' tailback Kareem Hunt, who has been making the rounds with a handful of media outlets to reflect on his record-breaking rookie campaign while looking forward to what next season has in store.
Of course, that included discussions about Kansas City's new starting quarterback, Patrick Mahomes , and how Hunt came to respect the second-year signal caller during their shared rookie season.
"Patrick is a competitor," Hunt told NFL Network on Wednesday. "We're really good friends – we came in (the league together). I just like to see him grind. He was grinding every day on the scout team and making plays against the starting defense."
That daily grind at practice gave Hunt an opportunity to see what enticed the Chiefs to select Mahomes in the first round of the 2017 Draft.
"He can throw on the run like no other and can put the ball in places like I've never seen," Hunt told Good Morning Football. "And he has zip (on the ball)."
It's that unique athletic ability paired with Mahomes' innate desire to compete that gives Hunt confidence in Kansas City's offense as a whole next season.
"He's just the most competitive person I know," Hunt said. "He's always trying to compete – he hates losing – and he's good at pretty much everything he does."
That includes basketball and golf, according to Hunt, with him going as far to say that Mahomes can hit the back net during outings to Top Golf.
And as of next season, the duo will have a chance to compete together on the biggest stage.
"I'm happy he's getting an opportunity," Hunt said. "I can't wait to get out there with him."
