Kansas City Falls to Seattle, 26-13, on Friday Night

Seattle pulls away late in Kansas City's third preseason game

The Kansas City Chiefs (1-2) fell to the Seattle Seahawks (3-0), 26-13, at CenturyLink Field on Friday night in the third week of preseason action.

The Chiefs narrowed the deficit to six points early in the fourth quarter, but Seahawks quarterback Austin Davis put the game out of reach with a 28-yard touchdown to Tanner McEvoy with six minutes remaining in the game.

Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith played the entire first half, completing seven of 17 passes for 44 yards. Rookie Patrick Mahomes  took over at quarterback following halftime, completing eight of 15 passes for 70 yards.

De'Anthony Thomas scored Kansas City's lone touchdown of the night with a 95-yard kickoff return midway through the second quarter. It was an encouraging sign for Thomas, who will likely handle kickoff return duties for Kansas City this season.

Seattle kicker Blair Walsh accounted for the majority of the Seahawks' offense, hitting four field goals. Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson connected with fullback Tre Madden for a two-yard score midway through the second quarter for the Seahawks' first touchdown on the evening.

Davis later added another touchdown for Seattle.

Chiefs defensive back De'Vante Bausby tallied his first interception of the preseason, while defensive tackle Chris Jones notched his first sack. Jones was activated from the PUP (physically unable to perform) List last week and made his preseason debut on Friday.

Chiefs running back Spencer Ware injured his knee on Kansas City's opening drive and did not return to the game.

The Chiefs will host the Tennessee Titans (1-1) at Arrowhead Stadium on Aug. 31 to wrap up the preseason. Kickoff will be on KCTV5 at 7:30 p.m.
