DAY 30 of 30
Michael Turner was released by the Atlanta Falcons, earlier this month, but according to a Facebook post, he has no plans of retiring.
"I'm excited to begin a new chapter of my career and truly believe I have a lot left in the tank," Turner said.
With that said, here's a look at some of Turner's strengths and weaknesses.
Name: Michael Turner
Position: RB
Height: 5'10
Weight: 247
College: Northern Illinois
Born: February 13th, 1982 (Waukegan, Il)
Age: 31
Experience: 9 years
Drafted: 2004, 5th Round-154th pick overall by the San Diego Chargers
Career Stat Line: 134 games (74 starts), 1,639 rushes, 7,338 yards, 66 TDs, 70 receptions, 528 yards and 1 TD
STRENGTHS:
Yard-Gaining Potential
Turner rushed for 1,699 yards, during his first season with Atlanta (2008). He also topped the 1,300-yard mark, during two other seasons, rushing for 1,371 yards in 2010 and 1,340 yards in 2011, with the Falcons.
Overcoming Injury
Spending five years in Atlanta, Turner missed five games (all during the 2009 season) with a high ankle sprain. However, he followed up the injury by rushing for more than 1,300 yards in each of the next two years.
Nose for the End Zone
During his five-year campaign with the Falcons, he scored 60 TDs, including 17 trips to paydirt in 2008.
WEAKNESSES:
Limited Role in 2012/Endurance
Turner's 3.6 rushing yards average, across 222 carries (800 yards), was the lowest of his career.
His playing time decreased in 2012, when teammate Jacquizz Rodgers, who offered the team more speed and quickness, earned more carries.
Injuries
Turner's release from the Falcons was officially listed as a failed physical on the league's transaction wire.
He has battled groin injuries during the last few years, admitting later that he played through groin tears in 2010 and 2011, according to RotoWorld.com.
FINAL TAKE:
It's never a good thing to be waived by a team for a failed physical; however, you'd like to think that Turner uses that as motivation to get in the best possible shape this offseason, in order to contribute to a team in 2013.
