Halftime Recap: Ware Rushes for Third Preseason Touchdown as Chiefs Lead, 13-0

The Bears had just 20 total yards in the first half

The Kansas City Chiefs lead the Chicago Bears, 13-0, after two quarters of play at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois.

The Bears won the toss and deferred to the Chiefs, who chose to receive.

After a nice 14-yard third-down conversion from quarterback Alex Smith to tight end Travis Kelce down the right sideline for a first down, the Chiefs drive stalled and they punted to the Bears. Dustin Colquitt pinned the Bears back deep to their own 7-yard line.

After two first downs thanks to nice runs by running back Jeremy Langford, the Bears punted the ball back to the Chiefs.

The play of the game so far came as the Chiefs faced third-and-14 at the Chicago 38-yard line. Right after a play in which he was sacked, Smith felt the pressure again and scrambled for 17 yards for a Chiefs first down. They would eventually have to settle for a 20-yard field goal on the drive, however, and Cairo Santos connected to give the Chiefs a 3-0. Santos later hit a 28-yard field goal for to extend the lead to 6-0.

On the final offensive possession of the half, Smith, starting at the 30-yard line, drove the Chiefs 70 yards down the field. Spencer Ware finished the drive off with a 1-yard touchdown, his third score of the preseason.

Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin leads the team in yards receiving with 44. Alex Smith is 20 of 30 with 181 yards passing. Smith also leads the team in rushing with 25 yards.

Derrick Johnson leads the defense in tackles for the Chiefs with 4 (3 solo) and he had a sack. Dontari Poe also had a sack to close the half.

The Chiefs led the time of possession battle, 21:54 to 8:06 in the first half. The Bears had just 20 total yards.

The Bears will receive to start the third quarter.
