Rookie linebacker D.J. Alexander has been named this week's AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his block of Oakland Raiders punter Marquette King in the end zone last Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. The play resulted in a safety for the Chiefs, extending their second-half lead to 16-10.
On the ensuing possession, the Chiefs scored a touchdown and ultimately won the game, 23-17. Alexander's play could thus be argued as the turning point of the game for Kansas City.
It was the first blocked punt for the Chiefs since 2012 and the only special teams points for Kansas City all season.
Alexander played in 21 special teams snaps for the Chiefs Sunday and leads the team in special teams tackles with 11.
