The Chiefs organization recently announced a new television-programming schedule, which will broadcast Chiefs content in Kansas City and affiliate markets year-round. For Kansas City, KCTV5 will serve as the home of the Chiefs and is airing the programming on Saturdays at 10:35pm, following KCTV5's 10pm newscast.
"We are extremely excited about rolling out this 52-week programming to the Chiefs Kingdom," Mark Donovan, Chiefs President, said. "The NFL and the Chiefs enjoyed record-level ratings this year on broadcast television, and we feel like this model will allow us to deliver content beyond our games and content on KCChiefs.com. There is an insatiable appetite for Chiefs coverage in Kansas City and throughout the region, and we are eager to use these weekly timeslots to reach and entertain our fans."
The Chiefs Emmy award winning in-house production team, 65 Toss Power Trap Productions, has already started crafting exclusive content, which is featured on Chiefs Red and Gold. This is an offseason show, in its third season, hosted by Chiefs Reporter Rachel Santschi.
Chiefs Red and Gold covers everything happening at One Arrowhead Drive and takes a look at the history of the franchise in Kansas City and all over the Kingdom.
This show provides interviews with players and coaches, behind the scenes footage at Arrowhead Stadium, Draft and Free Agency coverage and offseason preparations. Plus Voice of the Chiefs Mitch Holthus and former Chiefs Long Snapper Kendall Gammon break down the Chiefs roster and give fans their thoughts on the state of the team each week.
Chiefs Red and Gold will run through the beginning of June and then the new time slot will include in-season highlights, Chiefs Cheerleader specials and historical features.
In July, Chiefs Blueprint will begin airing; this show allows fans to follow the growth of the team as the Chiefs invade St. Joseph for 2014 Training Camp presented by Mosaic Life Care. Offering a weekly in-depth look at the team as it prepares for the 2014 season, Chiefs Blueprint will highlight draft picks and rookies as they hit the field for their first training camp, discuss how free agent moves impact the team, offer behind-the-scenes practice footage from the campus of Missouri Western State University and will preview and recap each of the team's preseason games.
Following Chiefs Blueprint, at the beginning of September, Chiefs Kingdom presented by Hy-Vee will take over. This show is the one and only series dedicated exclusively to telling the stories of Chiefs fans from coast-to-coast. It has featured dozens of personalities, each sharing their unique Chiefs stories and fandom, including comedians such as Paul Rudd, Rob Riggle and David Koechner; professional skateboarder Sean Malto; former Chiefs running back-turned actor John Amos; the original rider of Warpaint, Bob Johnson; the 442nd Fighter Wing of Whiteman Air Force Base; and 9/11 survivor, Lt. Col. Brian Birdwell, just to name a few.
