Chiefs Announce High School Coaches of the Week for Week Two of the 2024 Season

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the Coach of the Week honors for the second week of the 2024 season. The Week Two awards went to Ruskin High School Head Coach Tim Callaghan (Missouri) and Blue Valley West High School Head Coach Josh Koerkenmeier (Kansas).

As a result of this honor, the awarded schools will receive a $500 grant from the Hunt Family Foundation. Additionally, the coaches will be presented a pair of sunglasses, courtesy of Oakley, and a certificate recognizing their selection. These coaches are now qualified for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which will be voted on later this fall. The Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award is selected by a panel comprised of the Missouri and Kansas Boards from the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association.

Ruskin High School defeated Kansas City Central High School 44-8 to move to 3-0 for the season. The three wins in a season are the most for Ruskin since 2009 when it finished 3-7.

Callaghan said the players and coaches have committed to a standard that has led to this success.

"This means a lot to the Ruskin football program, its staff and the team. We understand that the season is early, and we are continuing to work to improve each week. There is still a lot of work to do. I am especially proud of the staff, the seniors and the leadership committee that have helped establish a commitment to the standard that we want at Ruskin. This is a very unselfish group," Callaghan shared.

Blue Valley West High School earned its first win of the season with a 42-12 victory over Olathe West High School. The Jaguars bounced back from a season-opening loss to Saint Thomas Aquinas High School to put together a complete victory.

Koerkenmeier noted that this is a good group of players and coaches that continue to get better.

"I appreciate the honor, but this is a direct reflection of all the hard work put in by our players and our coaching staff," Koerkenmeier said. "They continue to work hard to get better every week, and this award shows the progress they are making. I am very fortunate to get to work with them."

In its 28th season, the 2024 High School Coach of the Week is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League. This program is designed to recognize and reward Kansas City area high school coaches for superior performance on a weekly basis while honoring individuals who are shaping today's youth and tomorrow's leaders.

The Kansas City Chiefs partner with PrepsKC to select Coaches of the Week from Missouri and Kansas each week. PrepsKC is the only complete multimedia coverage of high school football in the Kansas City Metro. For the last 15 years, it has combined a dynamic website, weekly magazine and comprehensive weekly radio show.
