Chiefs Announce High School Coaches of the Week for Week Three of the 2024 Season

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the Coach of the Week honors for the third week of the 2024 season. The Week Three awards went to St. Pius X High School Head Coach Anthony Simone Jr. (Missouri) and Olathe East High School Head Coach Courtney Porter (Kansas).

As a result of this honor, the awarded schools will receive a $500 grant from the Hunt Family Foundation. Additionally, the coaches will be presented a pair of sunglasses, courtesy of Oakley, and a certificate recognizing their selection. These coaches are now qualified for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which will be voted on later this fall. The Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award is selected by a panel comprised of the Missouri and Kansas Boards from the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association.

St. Pius X High School defeated Maryville in a 61-0 victory. The Warriors have won three straight games after opening the season with a loss to Rockhurst High School. In those games, they have scored 57, 59 and 61 points, while only giving up 15 points total in the three wins. Simone said this acclaim is for the entire program.

"I am truly honored to receive this great award," Simone said. "I receive this award on behalf of all these great St. Pius football players and this amazing coaching staff. They have all invested so much and worked extremely hard, and this wouldn't have happened without each and every one of them. This is an incredible group of humans that understand how important it is to live every day by our motto – Love, Faith, Family and Champions. I am blessed to be a part of this extraordinary St. Pius X family."

Olathe East High School defeated Olathe West High School 30-18 to move to 3-0 on the season. It's the best start for the Hawks since they began the 2020 season 4-0. Porter was honored that his program is being recognized.

"Being named Coach of the Week is unexpected but an incredible honor," Porter said. "My staff works extremely hard day in and day out to prepare our kids and it is a great recognition for all of us. None of this is done by me alone."

In its 28th season, the 2024 High School Coach of the Week is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League. This program is designed to recognize and reward Kansas City area high school coaches for superior performance on a weekly basis while honoring individuals who are shaping today's youth and tomorrow's leaders.

The Kansas City Chiefs partner with PrepsKC to select Coaches of the Week from Missouri and Kansas each week. PrepsKC is the only complete multimedia coverage of high school football in the Kansas City Metro. For the last 15 years, it has combined a dynamic website, weekly magazine and comprehensive weekly radio show.
