KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Friday several coaching staff moves, including five role changes and five new additions.
The Chiefs have promoted Britt Reid to serve as the primary defensive line coach, and Al Harris has been elevated to Secondary Coach/Cornerbacks. Reid has assisted Coach Tommy Brasher with the defensive line since his arrival in 2013. Brasher will now work on special projects for the club. Harris' new role will focus on the corner position. He will continue to work with Defensive Backs Coach Emmitt Thomas with the entire secondary group. Assistant Quarterbacks Coach Corey Matthaei will assume additional responsibility with an expanded role working with the quarterbacks and assisting the offensive line. Assistant Linebackers Coach Mark DeLeone will have an expanded role on defense.
Additionally, the Chiefs have hired Joe Bleymaier to serve as the club's offensive quality control coach, Taylor Embree as a defensive assistant, Mike Smith was named the team's assistant defensive line coach and Devin Woodhouse and Ryan Reynolds will join the club's strength and conditioning staff.
"Over the past three seasons we've been able to develop some very talented young coaches from within our program," Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid said. "Britt, Corey and Mark all started with us as quality control coaches when I first arrived here in Kansas City. Al has done a nice job making the transition from Pro Bowl player to an effective coach. They've each grown significantly and shown me with their abilities, work ethic and knowledge of the game, that they have earned their opportunities for expanded roles."
"Coach Brasher has been one of the best in the business for a long time. After the season, we sat down together and he expressed to me that it was time for a change. He's seen quite a bit in his 28 NFL seasons. Together we decided to put him into a special projects role, and he will continue to be a valuable asset we can use on and off the field."
"Additionally, we were able to hire Joe Bleymaier, Taylor Embree and Mike Smith to our offensive and defensive staffs, as well as Devin Woodhouse and Ryan Reynolds to our strength and conditioning staff. I see great potential in these young coaches. We feel they have the characteristics and work ethic it takes to contribute to our staff and the success of our team."
