Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston will not participate at all during training camp, head coach Andy Reid confirmed Tuesday.
"I'll tell you, he's not going to work here," Reid said during his first media opportunity in St. Joseph. "He'll be here. He's just not going to be able to do the football stuff. He'll rehab and continue on with his rehab."
Training camp practices in St. Joseph run from Wednesday, July 27, to Thursday, August 18. This news thus rules out Houston for the team's first two preseason games of the season—August 13 against the Seattle Seahawks and August 20 against the Los Angeles Rams.
Houston missed Kansas City's final five regular season games in 2015 due to knee issues and underwent surgery for the injuries this past offseason.
"We'll just see how it goes," Reid added. "Between the doctors, they'll let me know. Justin, we'll try to keep open communication with all parties here and just make sure that he's safe to go out and play when that time and if that time comes about."
