Todd Vaughn and Phil Katzenmeier Named Chiefs High School Coaches of the Week

Vaughn coaches at Belton High School in Missouri and Katzenmeier coaches at Eudora High School in Kansas

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the Missouri and Kansas High School Coach of the Week honors for this past week. Belton High School's Todd Vaughn (Missouri) and Eudora High School's Phil Katzenmeier (Kansas) each received this honor after a strong performance by their respective teams this past week.

As a result of this honor, both schools will receive a $500 grant. Additionally, Vaughn and Katzenmeier will be presented with congratulatory footballs autographed by Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid and a certificate recognizing their selection. Each coach is now a finalist for their state's Chiefs Coach of the Year Award.

Belton opened postseason play with a 48-28 win over Willard. The Pirates now stand at 7-3 on the season as they get ready to play an undefeated Sedalia Smith-Cotton in round two of the Missouri Class Five playoffs. Vaughn said this honor is due to the hard work put in by his players and staff.

"This is a great honor to be selected," Vaughn said. "There are so many great coaches in the Kansas City area, and for me to be selected is an honor. It is also a compliment to our kids. They have come to work every week and worked to improve themselves. Also to our coaches, they have been so committed for the last three years to challenge our kids to change the culture in our program. I am really proud of our seniors, they have shown great leadership on and off the field."

Eudora beat DeSoto 27-24 to win their fifth-straight game. The Cardinals now stand at 5-3 and have a commanding lead in district play.

"On behalf of the coaching staff and players of the Eudora High School football team, I appreciate the recognition and accept this honor from PrepsKC and the Kansas City Chiefs," Katzenmeier said. "Our staff does an outstanding job each day of preparing our players for the game each week. Our players have been dedicated and determined to do their best to contribute to the success of the team. I would also like to thank the many supporters of the Eudora football team."

The 2015 High School Coach of the Week program is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League.
