It seems only fitting that the new regime at One Arrowhead Drive, including new general manager John Dorsey and new head coach Andy Reid, will encounter the 2013 free agency season with a "new" twist, better known as the three-day negotiating period.

It's kind of like window shopping, if you will, a look-but-no-touch approach is applied, during the three days leading into the 2013 NFL Year.

True to its name, negotiating can take place, during the next three days, but with certain restrictions.

Here's the scoop:

Beginning at 11:00 p.m. CST tonight (March 8) and ending at 2:59:59 p.m. CST on Tuesday, March 12, teams may contact and enter into negotiations with the certified agents of players, who will become unrestricted free agents, when their 2012 player contracts expire at 3:00 p.m. CST on March 12, which is when contracts with a new team can be executed.

Some more of the aforementioned restrictions (aka: fine print), are listed below.

During this three-day negotiation period, a prospective unrestricted free agent (UFA) cannot visit a team (other than his own) at its permanent facility or at any other location and no direct contact is allowed between the player and any employee or representative of a club (other than his current team). If a player is serving as his own agent, clubs can't talk with the player, during the negotiating period.

Clubs (other than the player's current team) can't discuss or make any travel plans with prospective unrestricted free agent players, their certified agents, or anyone else associated with the player, until the expiration of those players' 2012 player contracts (3:00 p.m. CST on March 12).

The three-day negotiating period applies only to potential unrestricted free agents; those who are potential exclusive-rights players or restricted free agents, or players who have been designated as franchise players or transition players, do not apply.

What does this essentially mean?

Players who are set to become free agents will get a sneak peek at their market value (via their agents), before deciding whether or not to re-sign with their current team, before March 12th.

However, on the other side of the table, the three-day negotiating period will allow teams to gauge the market of players, not on their team, to see if their price tag is worth a potential upgrade, over a player they currently have.
