The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the Missouri and Kansas High School Coach of the Week honors for this past week. Blue Springs South's Greg Oder (Missouri) and Shawnee Mission West's Tim Callaghan (Kansas) each received this honor after a strong performance by their respective teams this past week.
As a result of this honor, both schools will receive a $500 grant. Additionally, Oder and Callaghan will be presented with congratulatory footballs autographed by Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid and a certificate recognizing their selection. Each coach is now a finalist for their state's Chiefs Coach of the Year Award.
Blue Springs South finished its regular season 9-0 and heads into the postseason as the No. 3 ranked team in Missouri. Oder said the credit really goes to everyone involved with the program.
"Anytime a coach of the week award is given out, it means that our coaches and players had a good week," Oder said. "It can't just be a single person's award. We all work hard, and it takes us all to win any game on our schedule. We do appreciate the recognition. Thanks to the Chiefs for this honor."
West opened district play with a 45-6 win over Shawnee Mission South. The Vikings now stand at 6-1 on the season and Callaghan said this has been a great group to coach this year.
"This is a great honor for our team and our staff," Callaghan said. "It seems like a lifetime since we have been playing at a high level on both sides of the ball. These kids have worked very hard in and out of season and were amazed the other day when I told them they only had two weeks guaranteed left in their season. A great group of kids that make two and a half hours fly by daily. They hope to be there at the end and won't take another game for granted."
