The Kansas City Chiefs bolstered their offensive line by officially signing veteran offensive tackle D.J. Humphries on Tuesday.

Here are five things to know about the newest member of the team.

1. Humphries is an eight-year veteran who previously spent the entirety of his career with the Arizona Cardinals.

The 30-year-old Humphries has started 98 career games during his career, all of which took place with the Arizona Cardinals. The No. 24 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Humphries went on to make double-digit starts in five of his eight seasons in the desert. He put together a strong campaign last year, too, by yielding just 28 pressures and four sacks across 568 pass-blocking snaps. Those 28 pressures were the ninth-fewest allowed by all tackles with at least 500 pass-blocking snaps in 2023.

Humphries tore his ACL last December, ending his season early, but he'll now have an opportunity to pick up where he left off with Kansas City.

2. He has primarily played left tackle during his professional career.

The 6-foot-5, 307-pound Humphries started the first 10 games of his career at right tackle, but he's lined up at left tackle in all 88 of his starts in the time since. Additionally, those starts have culminated in 3,545 total pass-blocking snaps on the left side of the offensive line.

In other words, Humphries is about as experienced a left tackle as they come.

3. Humphries was a Pro Bowler in 2021.

Offensive tackles – even the best ones – often don't garner the recognition they deserve due to the nature of their position, but Humphries was recognized for his efforts with a Pro Bowl nod in 2021.

He started 16 games that season, yielding 42 pressures across 661 pass-blocking snaps, the 11th-fewest among tackles with 600+ pass-blocking snaps.

4. He was a first-round pick back in 2015.

Humphries was the No. 24 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, making him the sixth offensive lineman taken that year behind Brandon Scherff (Commanders), Ereck Flowers (Giants), Andrus Peat (Saints), Cameron Erving (Browns) and Cedric Ogbuehi (Bengals).

Lance Zierlein from NFL.com projected Humphries to develop into “a solid NFL starter on the left side” in his pre-draft analysis, and that's exactly what took place.

5. He played his college ball at the University of Florida.

Prior to joining the Cardinals, Humphries appeared in 30 games for the Gators between the 2012 and 2014 campaigns. He made 10 starts at left tackle during his final season in Gainesville, and now a decade later, he'll have an opportunity to help the back-to-back Super Bowl champions through the homestretch of the season.
