Chiefs Take the Stage in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX Opening Night

The Chiefs met with hundreds of media members from around the world on Monday night

The countdown to Super Bowl LIX is officially underway as the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles took the stage at the Caesars Superdome on Monday as part of the annual "Opening Night" celebration.

The festivities included media availability for every player on both teams, providing reporters from every corner of the world with an opportunity to interview members of each squad.

Check out more from Super Bowl LIX where the Kansas City Chiefs will face the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans, Louisiana.

In classic New Orleans fashion, the Chiefs took the field behind the "Marching 100" St. Augustine High School marching band. Head Coach Andy Reid and several players, including defensive lineman Chris Jones, linebacker Nick Bolton, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, wide receiver Xavier Worthy, kicker Harrison Butker, cornerback Trent McDuffie, safety Justin Reid, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and tailback Isiah Pacheco, then answered questions from podiums throughout the event. The rest of the team spent the session mingling with the hundreds of media members on the stadium turf.

"Opening Night" is also known for its fair share of silliness, and Monday's event was no different. Cleveland Browns' quarterback and surprise FOX correspondent Jameis Winston, for example, started tossing W-shaped cookies at Kelce during an interview.

The hard-hitting questions were in full force, too. Notably, it turns out Mahomes' favorite color is green, and Eagles' tailback Saquon Barkley's is red.

There were plenty of wholesome moments during the event as well, including Hopkins telling a story about a mink coat left for him by his late father. Hopkins always told himself that he would wear the coat on either his wedding day or to the Super Bowl, and he intends to do exactly that on Sunday.

Hopkins also spoke about what it means to him to share his first career Super Bowl experience with his mom.

"It means a lot to bring my mother to the Super Bowl. She comes to just about all of my games anyway, but this one has a little bit more significance," Hopkins said." She's doing a Super Bowl brunch [designed around] empowering women, so it's cool to see her putting her message out there and to share her story with others."

Elsewhere, Mahomes discussed his thoughts on where he stands when it comes to the greatest quarterbacks of all-time.

"I'm trying to be the greatest Patrick Mahomes that I can be. That's obviously a goal of anyone's – to be the greatest at their profession – but in order to do that, you have to be the greatest that you can be every single day," Mahomes said. "Whenever I'm done with football, if I leave everything out there – the way that I feel like I have so far – as far as effort and mentality, I'll be happy with the results."

Additionally, Coach Reid and the Chiefs' captains – Mahomes, Kelce, Jones, Bolton, Butker and longsnapper James Winchester – participated in a group interview alongside members of the Eagles before the Chiefs broke out into their individual podiums.

"Kansas City, we're back in the Super Bowl, baby," Jones screamed to mixed reactions from the varied crowd. "It feels good. It feels good."

Moving forward, the Chiefs will meet with the media on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week amidst their preparation for Super Bowl LIX. Nothing will quite capture the spirit of "Opening Night" though, which is truly an event of its own.
