Under a blazing sun, the Kansas City Chiefs took the field at Arrowhead Stadium, won the toss and elected to receive. The team also elected to rest Chiefs QB Alex Smith, giving the nod to QB Chase Daniel.
Returning the opening kick was Chiefs WR A.J. Jenkins, who gained 21 yards. Chase Daniel then dropped back to pass on his first play from scrimmage, which ended in the hands of Packers CB Tramon Williams, who returned it to the KC 35-yard line.
Like the Chiefs, the Green Bay Packers sat their starting QB, Aaron Rodgers, turning to back-up QB Vince Young, who was stopped by the Chiefs after three plays, before Packers K Mason Crosby made good on a 48-yard FG attempt. GB 3 KC 0.
The game's next three drives resulted in punts, before the Packers took over on their own 30-yard line. Facing a third-and-eight, Packers QB B.J. Coleman, who replaced Young, stepped back to pass and was picked off by Chiefs LB Frank Zombo, who returned it 27 yards to the Packers 14-yard line.
The Packers D kept the Chiefs out of the end zone, so Chiefs K Ryan Succop booted a 37-yard FG to even the score. GB 3 KC 3.
Since then, Chiefs rookie QB Tyler Bray entered the game, replacing Chase Daniel.
No scoring took place until Succop later added one more FG (48 yards), giving the Chiefs a brief 6-3 lead. The Packers answered as Mason Crosby tied the game with a 45-yard FG. GB 6 KC 6.
Later on in the second quarter, the Chiefs looked to close out the half in style and did so. Tyler Bray led the team down the field and later found Chiefs WR Junior Hemingway for an 8-yard TD. KC 13 GB 6.
For the half, Tyler Bray went 9 of 14 for 92 yards and one TD.
THIRD QUARTER
When the game resumed in the third quarter, things got defensive. The Packers started out with the ball and began moving down the field, until Chiefs LB Josh Martin outworked the Packers offensive line, sacking QB Vince Young and forcing the fumble that he also recovered.
Tyler Bray began the next Chiefs drive in great field position, before his pass attempt to Chiefs WR Rico Richardson was intercepted by Packers CB Brandon Smith.
Now pinned inside their five-yard line, the Packers went nowhere, thanks to the concrete wall of the Chiefs defensive line, leading to a punt.
Tyler Bray used his legs and rocket arm on the very next drive that ended with a 43-yard TD pass to Chiefs WR Josh Bellamy. One play after scrambling seven yards for a first down, Bray dropped back and found Bellamy down the right sideline, before Josh dove into the end zone for the score. KC 20 GB 6.
Shortly before the quarter ended, the Packers pinned the Chiefs deep in their own territory, before Packers LB Sam Barrington sacked Tyler Bray for a safety. KC 20 GB 8.
The Chiefs forced a Green Bay punt on the ensuing drive, which Chiefs WR Frankie Hammond Jr. returned 33 yards.
The third quarter ended with the scoreboard reading KC 20 GB 8.
FOURTH QUARTER
Roughly two-and-a-half minutes into the fourth quarter, Chiefs K Ryan Succop drilled a 48-yard FG, adding to the Chiefs lead. KC 23 GB 8.
The fourth quarter continued with more Chiefs defense, which totaled four forced fumbles on the night, and a third TD pass by Chiefs QB Tyler Bray, who connected on a nine-yard score with Chiefs WR Frankie Hammond Jr., giving the Chiefs a 30-8 lead. The score remained unchanged and the Chiefs left Arrowhead Stadium with a 22-point win.
Kansas City closes out the preseason with two-consecutive wins and some momentum, heading to Jacksonville for its week-one opener on Sep. 8.
Bray finished the game going 14-25 for 169 yards, 3 TDs and one INT in the win.
