The Kansas City Chiefs placed defensive back Sanders Commings on injured reserve and promoted linebacker Josh Martin to the 53-man roster from the team's practice squad, the club announced today.

Martin joined the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2013. He was inactive for the club's first three games and then moved to the team's practice squad. Prior to joining the Chiefs, he played in 30 games for Columbia University (N.Y.), tallying 140 tackles (85 solo), 29.5 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks (-118.0 yards), two forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and two passes defensed.

Martin prepped at Cherokee Trail High School in Aurora, Colo.

Commings joined the Chiefs as the club's fifth-round pick (134th overall) in the 2013 NFL Draft. He has played in two games with Kansas City in 2013, recording one solo tackle. Commings spent the first nine weeks of the 2013 season on injured reserve with the designation to return. He appeared in 54 games (35 starts) at Georgia, recording 154 tackles (113 solo), one sack, six tackles for loss, three QB pressures, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries. He added eight interceptions and 17 passes defensed.

Commings was a multi-sport standout at Westside High School in Augusta, Ga. While in high school, he was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 37th round of the 2008 MLB Amateur Draft.
