With the 204th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected FB Braden Wilson from Kansas State University.
Wilson's 2012 campaign included 13 games played, recording six carries for 13 yards and a score. He also caught five passes for 34 yards.
He received the phone call from the Chiefs while at his brother's house in Olathe, KS.
"This is awesome," Wilson said. "This is a great feeling. I couldn't be happier. Having played at Kansas State, I'm just moving two hours to the east. I still have family close by. I know a lot of people here. I couldn't be happier."
One of Wilson's unquestioned strengths is his blocking ability.
"I thought he was the best blocking fullback in the draft," Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said of Wilson.
His blocking ability was highlighted in 2010, when he started 11 of 13 games, helping pave the way for current Miami Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas, who logged the ninth-most rushing yards in the nation (2,850).
"I take a lot of pride in that," Wilson said of his blocking ability. "I would say that's what I do best. I've put a lot into it. That's what I'm best at."
The two-way player in high school, playing RB and DE, earned Kansas Top 11 selection and first-team KFBCA All-State honors in 2007.
Wilson's athleticism was showcased also as an all-league basketball player and as a state qualifier in the discus and long jump.
