The Kansas City Chiefs have announced their Coach of the Week honors for the fourth week of the 2018 season. The awards go to Rockhurst Coach Tony Severino and De Soto Coach Brian King.
As a result of this honor, both schools will receive a $500 player health and safety grant from the Hunt Family Foundation. Each school will also receive a Gatorade Sideline Kit, including coolers, bottles and Gatorade products. Additionally, both coaches will be presented congratulatory footballs autographed by Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid and a certificate recognizing their selection.
Both coaches are now qualified for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which will be voted on later this fall. The Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award is selected by a panel comprised of the Missouri and Kansas Boards from the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association. One coach will be selected from the pool of weekly winners and will be honored at the 2019 Pro Bowl as the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year.
Rockhurst beat Bishop Miege 14-13 to move to 5-1 on the season. The win ended the Stags' 29-game winning streak. The Hawklets are currently ranked No. 3 in Missouri Class 6 and are riding a five-game winning streak.
"It's always an honor to be recognized but it is as much an award for the team and our assistant coaches for the work they put in," Severino said. "It's never one guy. The head coach gets a lot more credit when you win which he shouldn't. It's as much as a team award as anything, and it is an honor for our program."
De Soto won its fifth straight to start the season by beating Spring Hill 38-12. The Wildcats are currently ranked No. 5 in Kansas Class 5A.
"I am very honored to be named Chiefs Coach of the Week," King said. "This award is a reflection of the hard work and buy-in of all our coaching staff and players. The effort our kids have given all offseason and these first five weeks has been amazing. I have been very proud of the way they have competed and stepped up this season after losing 19 senior starters from a year ago."
