Chiefs Announce Coaches of the Week for the Fifth Week of the Season

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced their Coach of the Week honors for the fifth week of the 2018 season. The awards go to Raytown Coach Logan Minnick and Basehor-Linwood Coach Rod Stallbaumer.

As a result of this honor, both schools will receive a $500 player health and safety grant from the Hunt Family Foundation. Each school will also receive a Gatorade Sideline Kit, including coolers, bottles and Gatorade products. Additionally, both coaches will be presented congratulatory footballs autographed by Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid and a certificate recognizing their selection.

Both coaches are now qualified for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which will be voted on later this fall. The Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award is selected by a panel comprised of the Missouri and Kansas Boards from the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association. One coach will be selected from the pool of weekly winners and will be honored at the 2019 Pro Bowl as the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year.

Raytown knocked off Fort Osage 42-35 to move to 6-1 on the year and clinch its first winning season since 1991. Chiefs Hall of Fame linebacker and Director of Special Events Gary Spani will present Minnick with the award at Raytown High School at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11.

"We are very honored as a coaching staff and program to receive this award," Minnick said. "When you have a group of talented young men working as hard as ours have been, the coaching aspect takes care of itself. Solidifying the first winning season at Raytown since 1991 is a huge step for the foundation of the program we are building here. We will take this award as the 'Chiefs Coaching Staff of the Week.' I demand a ton of time from my assistants, and that's time they are spending away from their families to make this program great! Go Chiefs! Go Raytown! #WeR #LetsFLY."

Basehor-Linwood got a huge 35-27 win over previously undefeated De Soto to move to 5-1 on the season. Spani will present Stallbaumer with the award today, Wednesday Oct. 10 at 3 p.m. before the team's practice.

"I'm honored to receive this award on behalf of the Basehor-Linwood community and our Bobcat Football program," Stallbaumer said. "An award like this isn't possible without incredible community and school support, hardworking athletes and the unbelievable support and dedication of our assistant coaches. I believe we have some of the best assistant coaches in high school football and none of this would be possible without them."

In its 22nd season, the 2018 High School Coach of the Week Fueled by Gatorade is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League. This program is designed to recognize and reward Kansas City area high school coaches for superior performance on a weekly basis while honoring individuals who are shaping today's youth and tomorrow's leaders.
