The Kansas City Chiefs have announced their Coach of the Week honors for the third week of the 2019 season. The awards go to Liberty North High School coach Greg Jones and Lawrence High School coach Steve Rampy.
As a result of this honor, both schools will receive a $500 player health and safety grant from the Hunt Family Foundation. Each school will also receive a Gatorade Sideline Kit, including coolers and Gatorade products. Additionally, both coaches will be presented congratulatory footballs autographed by Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid and a certificate recognizing their selection.
Both coaches are now qualified for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which will be voted on later this fall. The Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award is selected by a panel comprised of the Missouri and Kansas Boards from the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association. One coach will be selected from the pool of weekly winners and will be honored at the 2020 Pro Bowl as the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year.
Liberty North beat rival Liberty,14-3, to move to 4-0 on the season. Jones said being honored by the Chiefs is more about his coaches and his players.
"It's an honor to be recognized for our entire program," Jones said. "I truly look at it as coaching staff and team of the week, there is nothing I do by myself. I have an amazing coaching staff that works endless hours to prepare our players. And our players study this information and use it on game night to help them be successful."
Lawrence beat Gardner Edgerton, 35-34, for its third win of the season after winning just one game in 2018. Rampy said this is an honor for the entire program.
"I am honored and proud to be named Chiefs Coach of the Week," Rampy said. "This is a great team acknowledgement, so on behalf of the Lawrence Chesty Lions football program, its coaches, players, staff and fans, I humbly accept this award on their behalf."
In its 23rd season, the 2019 High School Coach of the Week Fueled by Gatorade is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League.
