Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) and the Kansas City Chiefs selected Marshall Lockton, member of the Chiefs Charity Committee and Co-Chair of the 2017 Charity Game benefiting The Children's Place, as a Blue KC Chiefs Kingdom Champion. Lockton, Vice President of Operations for Lockton Companies, threw out the ceremonial first pass at the Chiefs vs. 49ers game on August 11, 2017.
In conjunction with the annual Chiefs Charity Game, Lockton was selected as the Blue KC Chiefs Kingdom Champion based on his work with The Children's Place, the game's beneficiary. Lockton joined the board of The Children's Place five years ago, and when his term expired, has remained involved with the organization.
"There is not a more rewarding organization in Kansas City to be involved with," said Lockton, whose wife, Nora, currently serves on the board of The Children's Place. "The staff are miracle workers who have a passion for healing. They have teachers and therapists who have dedicated their entire lives to helping kids in our community."
Now in its third and final year as the game beneficiary, The Children's Place raised more than $700,000 in each of its first two years to expand its services to children and families in our community. A recognized leader in the prevention and treatment of abuse, neglect and trauma in children under 8, The Children's Place provides critical early interventions and helps children and families not only function, but thrive.
"Nora and I love The Children's Place because we have kids ages 6 and 3 and understand the importance of stability in these formative years," said Lockton, who played a significant role in the success of the 2015 and 2016 charity games. "The most rewarding thing about working with The Children's Place is seeing kids who have a smile on their face. At Lockton Companies, we have three primary constituencies: clients, associates and communities. Kansas City is our home and the highest priority. We live in a special city and are thrilled to help people in need."
Before each home game this season, Blue KC and the Chiefs will honor individuals who make Kansas City a better place to live, work and play. Fans can submit nominations online at chiefs.com/bluekc.
