The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the recipients of the Missouri and Kansas High School Coach of the Week awards for week two. Bill Utz from Platte County High School in Platte City, Missouri, and Brian King from De Soto, Kansas. Each received this honor after a strong performance by their respective teams this past week.
Platte County topped Harrisonville 49-0 in a matchup of teams ranked in the Missouri Class 4 top 10. Utz said he will share this honor with his fellow coaches and players.
"It's always an honor to receive team accolades after a well-played game, especially from a respected organization like the Chiefs," Utz said. "I am blessed to have tremendous coaches and players. The coaches did an excellent job preparing our players to be successful, and the players did an excellent job of executing the game plan. It means a great deal to me to be able to share this recognition with them."
De Soto moved to 2-0 on the season with an impressive 28-0 win at Bonner Springs. King said this is an award for the whole program.
"I am excited to accept this recognition on behalf of my team," King said. "It has truly been the work of the players and assistant coaches that has earned this award. It has been their commitment to our program, and to helping it be the best it can be, which has made this possible. I would not be able to accept this award without their efforts, and I am pleased and honored to be selected as Chiefs Coach of the Week."
As a result of this honor, both schools will receive a $500 grant. Additionally, Utz and King will be presented with congratulatory footballs autographed by Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid and a certificate recognizing their selection. Each coach is now a finalist for their state's Chiefs Coach of the Year Award.
