The beginning of another football season in Kansas City means the return of new and delicious food items to Arrowhead Stadium.
Representatives from Aramark and Levy Restaurants met with the media last week to debut a handful of new concessions and merchandise that you can find at Arrowhead this season.
Arrowhead will feature two new concession concepts at the games this season: The Kingdom Cantina, a Mexican concept, and the Stadium Stockyards, a gourmet burger and chicken wing concept, which will both be located on the club level.
Let's take a look at some of what the Kingdom Cantina has to offer this season as presented by Leo Dominguez (@chefleod), the Executive Chef at Levy Restaurants.
Pork Carnitas Torta
"It's a nice size sandwich served with our fresh pork carnitas. It comes with refried beans, guacamole, a little bit of pepper jack cheese and that's also finished up with a little bit of fresh pico de gallo. I'm getting that baked locally at El Torito, a local Mexican market. I teamed up with them and their bakery to get it fresh every day for every game."
Chicken Tacos
"These are our street tacos. These are chicken tacos here, but there's a shredded beef version as well, finished with a little bit of queso fresco and fresh pico de gallo."
Dominguez also discussed what fans can expect at the Stadium Stockyards.
Ultimate Bacon Burger
"It's got bacon butter, bacon, crispy fried onion straws and, as you can see, our salt and pepper bun with the Chiefs logo."
Thai BBQ Wings
"It's our jumbo chicken wings with Thai BBQ sauce, finished with a little bit of sesame seed, ranch dressing and celery. Besides the Thai BBQ, we have a dry ranch, so basically a dry wing in a dry seasoning that's very tasty, and then we're also doing a traditional buffalo as well."
Fish & Chips
* "Next, we have our grub tub. We're very excited about our grub tub this year. It's a take-home souvenir cup and bowl. This will be featured in our three grill stands and this one is served with our fish and chips: two pieces of fish, French fries, coleslaw, malt vinegar tartar sauce and a grilled lemon."*
Also on the club level is Primo, an Italian themed concept that will offer two new brick oven style pizzas this season.
"We found a great vendor, actually based out of Rome, Italy, where we're getting some really nice handmade crust. First is our white pizza: fresh provolone, fresh mozzarella, prosciutto and a little fresh arugula. Our second is our pizza margherita, with fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and a little bit of fresh basil on top. In addition to the two pizzas we're featuring today, we're also offering a meat lover's pizza with pepperoni, sausage and bacon, which is also very good."
Arrowhead will also feature a number of new items located in general concessions around the stadium. Here's a look at some of the new items, as presented by Erin Wishon, a Senior Executive Chef at Aramark.
The Arrowhead Biscuit
"The all day brunch and biscuit sandwich is one of our things that we pushed for this year. It's a loaded biscuit. It basically has everything you'd need from a breakfast buffet: bacon, pancakes, hash browns, fried egg, cheese. It's delicious."
Loaded Potato Skin Sliders
"This is a really nice option, a gluten friendly option, and obviously it has the flare and gluttony of a stadium event day."
Cola Braised Short Rib Mac & Cheese
"It has a marinated tomato, just a nice really hot item."
Finally, Arrowhead will introduce "BBQ Alley" this season. Located near the Hall of Honor, this new concept features three local restaurants: Little Pig, Smoke Brewing Company and Plowboys.
Here's what to expect when strolling through "BBQ Alley," as presented by Mark Musselman, the General Manager of Aramark.
Pork Rind Nachos
"These are from Plowboys. It's their take on a BBQ nacho where they combine house made pork rinds and made from scratch cheese sauce, topped with their championship pulled pork and then layered with sour cream and jalapenos. They're located in section 121."
Deep Fried Burnt Ends
"These are from Smoke Brewing Company based out of Lee Summit. They're in section 122 at the stadium. They feature their deep friend burnt ends and their deep fried pork belly. They're dry rubbed and then smoked over hickory pecan woodchips."
Burnt End Sandwich and a "BBQ Sundae"
"This is from Little Pig BBQ out of Belton, Missouri. Today, they featured the burnt end sandwich and then a unique item, a BBQ sundae, flared with house made BBQ beans at the bottom, cream coleslaw and then topped with their pulled pork, pickles and BBQ sauce."
