10 Quick Facts About the Chiefs Week 3 Victory Over Atlanta | Upon Further Review

The Chiefs moved to 3-0 on the season on Sunday night

The Kansas City Chiefs tallied yet another thrilling victory on Sunday night, defeating the Atlanta Falcons, 22-17, to move to 3-0 on the campaign.

Here are some quick notes from the win.

1. Linebacker Nick Bolton stepped up to make the game-sealing play.

Bolton shot the gap to tackle Falcons' running back Bijan Robinson short of the line to gain on a 4th-and-1 with less than a minute remaining in the game, essentially sealing the victory for Kansas City. The play, which took place inside the Chiefs' 15-yard line, marked a second-straight series in which Kansas City forced a turnover on downs inside its own red zone.

The Chiefs became the first team to record multiple fourth-quarter, fourth-down stops inside their own red zone on Sunday since the Bengals did so in Week 6 of last season.

2. Wide receiver Rashee Rice hauled in a career-most 12 catches.

Rice tallied a career-best 12 catches for 110 yards and a touchdown on Sunday, recording his third-straight game with at least 75 receiving yards. His 110 yards on Sunday marked the second-most of his young career, and through three weeks, Rice is one of just three players (joining Nico Collins and DK Metcalf) to have multiple 100-yard games.

The second-year receiver currently leads the NFL in catches (24) and ranks second in receiving yards (288) through Sunday's action.

3. Safety Chamarri Conner continues to make plays.

A week after returning a fumble for a touchdown and coming up with a critical, fourth-quarter sack, Conner was back at it on Sunday with his first interception of the season.

The play, which was aided by a quarterback pressure courtesy of defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton, was part of a busy night for Conner, who tallied a team-best 10 tackles and two passes defensed in the game.

He also showed off his versatility, divvying up his 50 defensive snaps between the slot (25 snaps), the box (15 snaps), at free safety (6 snaps) and along the line of scrimmage (4 snaps).

4. Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster found the end zone for the first time in 2024.

Smith-Schuster, who caught two passes for 17 yards on Sunday, hauled in a 13-yard score late in the third quarter to extend Kansas City's lead. It was one of two touchdown passes by quarterback Patrick Mahomes that took place on third down, and in the case of Smith-Schuster, it marked his first touchdown since Week 8 of last season.

5. The Chiefs' defense held Falcons' running back Bijan Robinson to just 31 rushing yards.

Robinson, who entered Sunday's game averaging 5.2 yards-per-carry, was held to just 31 yards on 16 attempts against Kansas City. That production – which equaled out to 1.9 yards-per-attempt – was the second-lowest single-game total of Robinson's young career among outings in which he handled double-digit carries.

It continued an encouraging trend for Kansas City, which rendered running backs Derrick Henry (3.5 yards-per-carry) and Zack Moss (2.8 yards-per-carry) relatively ineffective through the first two weeks of the season before doing the same thing to Robinson on Sunday.

Overall, Kansas City has now held opponents under 28 total points in 24 consecutive games (including the playoffs), marking the longest streak for any team since 2009.

6. Defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah recorded a strip-sack late in the first half.

Anudike-Uzomah recorded the first full sack of his career on Sunday, ripping the ball free from quarterback Kirk Cousins late in the second quarter. The Falcons recovered the fumble, but the play helped bring about an Atlanta punt a few snaps later.

Overall, Falcons' quarterback Kirk Cousins was under pressure on 36 percent of his dropbacks, and on those snaps, Cousins completed just 3-of-9 passes for 41 yards and an interception.

7. Running back Carson Steele put together a productive first start in the NFL.

Steele filled in for the injured Isiah Pacheco on Sunday, and with 72 rushing yards on 17 carries, he certainly held his own. Eight of those 17 carries picked up at least five yards, and according to Pro Football Focus' advanced metrics, the rookie tailback forced two missed tackles and gained 52 yards after first contact.

The Chiefs rushed for 128 yards as a team on Sunday, marking the second time in three games this season that Kansas City has topped the triple-digit threshold.

8. Kicker Harrison Butker connected on three field goals.

Butker remained perfect on the season in terms of field goals on Sunday with successful kicks of 53 yards, 44 yards and 21 yards. His 53-yard boot was the 30th kick of his career that covered 50+ yards , and overall, the veteran kicker has now converted three or more kicks in a single game 28 times during his career.

9. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes made some more NFL history.

Mahomes locked up his 77th career victory as a starting quarterback on Sunday, moving him past Tom Brady and Roger Staubach for the most quarterback wins through 100 career starts in NFL history.

Additionally, Mahomes also passed Aaron Rodgers for the most touchdown passes (224) through 100 career starts in league history.

Mahomes, who will make his 100th career start next week, can still add to both records, too.

10. The Chiefs are now 3-0 for the first time since the 2020 season.

Kansas City entered Sunday's game with a 2-0 record for the third time in the last five years, but despite those strong starts, the Chiefs hadn't secured a 3-0 record to begin the year since the 2020 campaign.

The Chiefs are now one of just four 3-0 teams through Sunday's action, joining the Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings. The Buffalo Bills (2-0) could also join this group with a win on Monday Night Football.

Additionally, Kansas City has now won nine-straight games (including the playoffs) dating back to last season. Seven of those wins too place against teams who were .500 or better at the time of the game.

The win also marked the 131st regular-season victory of Head Coach Andy Reid's career with Kansas City, surpassing his win total as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles (130).

Looking ahead, the Chiefs will now turn the page to a matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium next weekend.
