10 Quick Facts About the Chiefs Week 2 Victory Over Cincinnati | Upon Further Review

Here are some quick notes from the Chiefs’ victory on Sunday

The Kansas City Chiefs won an absolute thriller over the Cincinnati Bengals, 26-25, to move to 2-0 on the season on Sunday afternoon.

Here are some quick notes from the win.

1. Kicker Harrison Butker nailed a 51-yard field goal to win the game as time expired.

Butker connected on a go-ahead, 51-yard field goal as time expired in regulation on Sunday, marking the fourth field goal of his career that won the game with zeroes on the clock.

It was also the 29th field goal of Butker's career that covered 50+ yards.

2. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes made some NFL history with Sunday's win.

Mahomes won his 76th regular-season game as the Chiefs' starting quarterback on Sunday, matching Tom Brady and Roger Staubach for the most quarterback victories through 100 career starts in NFL history.

Mahomes, who has started 98 career games, now has two shots at the NFL record.

3. Safety Chamarri Conner had a game to remember.

Conner was right in the middle of two game-changing plays on Sunday, and in many ways, the Chiefs may not have won without his contributions.

His first critical play took place early in the fourth quarter. The Bengals were in a position to add to their six-point lead following a Chiefs' turnover, but defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton strip-sacked Bengals' quarterback Joe Burrow, and Conner scooped up the loose football. The second-year safety returned the fumble all the way for a 38-yard touchdown, and just like that, the Chiefs had the lead.

Conner then made another significant play late in the game when Cincinnati, leading by two points and facing a third down, was attempting to run out the clock. Conner, who looked to be fired out of a cannon on a blitz, had other ideas, however, as he sacked Burrow and ended the drive.

The Bengals punted, and as it turned out, Cincinnati wouldn't see the football again.

4. Offensive tackle Wanya Morris caught the Chiefs' first "big man touchdown" in a while.

Morris hauled in a 1-yard touchdown pass midway through the third quarter, marking the first touchdown of his young career. The 6-foot-6, 307-pound Morris initially posed as an additional blocker on the play before leaking through the Bengals' coverage into the end zone. Mahomes then hit the wide-open Morris for the score.

It was the first "big man touchdown" for Kansas City since Nick Allegretti caught a 1-yard score in the 2021-22 Wild Card Game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. In the context of the regular season, Morris became the first Chiefs offensive lineman to haul in a touchdown since Eric Fisher did so in Week 3 of the 2020 season.

5. Wide receiver Rashee Rice had another impressive game.

Rice tallied five receptions for 75 yards and a touchdown on Sunday, which included a 44-yard score deep down the sideline during the second quarter. Rice now has 12 grabs for 178 yards through two games.

The second-year wide receiver is one of just four players across the NFL to have at least five catches and 75+ receiving yards in both Week 1 and Week 2, joining Jameson Williams, Chris Godwin and Nico Collins.

6. The Chiefs' defense has held opponents under 28 points in 23 straight games (including the playoffs).

Kansas City surrendered only 25 points on Sunday, maintaining their streak of holding opponents under 28 total points alive. In fact, the Chiefs have now matched the longest such streak for any team since 2009, when Washington continued a 23-game streak that began the previous season.

7. Defensive lineman Chris Jones was consistently wreaking havoc.

Jones recorded seven pressures, three quarterback hits and a half sack on Sunday, leading a pass-rush that pressured Joe Burrow on 32 percent of his dropbacks.

Defensive end Mike Danna (3 pressures, a half sack), defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton (3 pressures, a half sack and a forced fumble) and defensive end George Karlaftis (4 pressures, 2 quarterback hits and a half sack) also posted impressive performances.

8. Tailback Isiah Pacheco recorded 75+ yards from scrimmage for the 10th time in his last 11 games

Pacheco tallied 111 yards from scrimmage (90 rushing, 11 receiving) on Sunday, marking the 10th time in his last 11 games (including the playoffs) that he topped 75 total scrimmage yards. It was also the seventh game of Pacheco's young career in which he recorded triple-digit yards from scrimmage, and his second-straight against the Bengals.

Unfortunately for Pacheco and the Chiefs, the third-year running back left the game early due to an ankle injury on Kansas City's final drive.

9. Cornerback Trent McDuffie was outstanding once again.

McDuffie allowed just one catch on four targets across 44 coverage snaps on Sunday, which included a pass-breakup in the end zone. The third-year cornerback has now yielded just three receptions on 100 coverage snaps through the first two games of the season.

10. The Chiefs are now 2-0 for the seventh time under Head Coach Andy Reid.

Kansas City is perfect through two weeks for the seventh time in 12 seasons under Reid, who has now led the Chiefs to a 2-0 start in 2013, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2024.

The Chiefs are a combined 18-6 through the first two weeks of the season under Reid, marking the best record of any team in the NFL since 2013.

Kansas City will now look to stick in the win column next week as the Chiefs travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons in prime-time.
