Biography
Luke Shanno enters his 16th season with the Kansas City Chiefs and first as the Vice President of Corporate Communications in 2024.
Prior to being elevated to his current position, Shanno held various titles after arriving in Kansas City in 2009 as a Communications Seasonal Assistant. After two internship seasons, he served as the Communications Coordinator for three seasons (2011-13), Corporate Communications Manager for seven seasons (2014-20) and Sr. Director of Corporate Communications for three seasons (2021-23). Shanno entered the NFL with the Green Bay Packers in 2008 as a training camp intern.
In 2014, Shanno became the first communications staff member dedicated to corporate communications, and since then he has worked with key executives, including ownership, the team president, and the executive leadership team on media planning, event planning, presentation and speaking engagement preparation, internal communication strategy, award nominations, story pitching, crisis communications, and other special projects. Shanno focuses on developing and maintaining relationships with members of the media. He serves a vital role within the organization working with various departments, pitching club campaigns, lifestyle, entertainment, and off-field storylines to help the organization drive earned media value across the business portfolio each year.
In his role, Shanno serves as the main communications representative for all Arrowhead Events, the club's special events arm that secures major stadium events, including concerts, college football games, international soccer matches, and other events. Shanno has also served as the club's main communications representative for various events involving the organization, including preparations for the 2023 NFL Draft in Kansas City, 2024 Copa America and 2026 FIFA World Cup planning.
Shanno leads the organization's international communications efforts which began in 2014 when he served as the communications representative to the Chiefs London Committee as the organization prepared for a 2015 NFL International Series game in the United Kingdom. His role expanded in 2021 as the club announced its International Home Marketing Area rights for Germany and Mexico, and now also includes Austria and Switzerland. He was a member of the team's Germany Game Committee in 2023, working closely with a cross-functional team of internal staff, NFL staff and multiple in-market agencies to support communications and media operations needs for the NFL's first International Series game in Frankfurt, Germany.
During Shanno's tenure in Kansas City, the club has played in four Super Bowls (LIV, LV, LVII, LVIII), winning three championships (LIV, LVII, LVIII). Prior to each game, Shanno sat on an internal working group supporting the planning and execution of potential Super Bowl trips.
He also consistently offers communications insights and assistance to the club's roster of business partners to ideate around joint opportunities and unique storylines, including two separate naming rights agreements at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium and The University of Kansas Health System Training Complex. In 2021, Shanno led the communications efforts promoting Chiefs Fit, the club's multi-location team-themed fitness center concept developed in partnership with M6 Football. He has served as the communications representative to the Chiefs Green Initiative beginning in 2011 to help roll out a multi-step, multi-year sustainability program focused on increasing recycling efforts and decreasing the carbon footprint at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
A native of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Shanno graduated in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in public relations and a minor in business from Wartburg College where he spent four years working in the sports information department and served two years as student assistant to the Sports Information Director.
