Biography
Anthony Matthies enters his 14th season with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2024 and is in his second stint with the club. Matthies first joined the Chiefs in 2008 as a Suite Sales Manager before departing the team in 2012. He rejoined the Chiefs in 2014 as Manager of Suite Sales and was promptly promoted in 2015 to Director of Suite Sales.
Matthies oversees all premium sales offerings, working directly with and further securing corporate partners and suite holders. Matthies and his team prioritize strong execution of experiences while also offering innovative and fresh experiences collaborating frequently with the club's partnerships team to offer the best fit to each premium space holder.
From 2022 to 2024, Matthies served as the Senior Director of Premium Sales, focusing on developing and implementing sales and marketing business plans and strategies to deliver premium offerings and profitability opportunities for corporate partners and suite holders. During his time as Senior Director of Premium Sales, Matthies utilized unique spaces such as Chiefs Tailgate Suites to make each experience unique.
Matthies' time in San Francisco with the 49ers was spent as the Manager of New Stadium Suite Sales for Legends Sales and Marketing (2012-13). His two years with the 49ers focused on the business development ahead of the opening of Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. In his first season with the 49ers (2012), Matthies experienced a unique sales landscape as the 49ers reached Super Bowl XLVII.
Once promoted to Director of Suite Sales in 2015 after his return to Kansas City in 2014, Matthies focused on local and regional corporate prospects. In May 2018, Matthies added corporate partnership responsibilities to his plate, being elevated to Director of Partnerships and Suite Sales. In his first stint with the Chiefs (2008-12), Matthies joined the Chiefs in the midst of the GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium's renovations, creating unique, new premium space opportunities.
Prior to his time with Kansas City, Matthies had several other sports stops along the way including a role in premium seats and sales with the Phoenix Coyotes of the NHL and at Cricket Pavilion in the Phoenix area. Matthies originally entered the sports space with time at Louisiana State University (1999-00) and Arizona State University (2000) after gaining premium space sales experience in the concert and entertainment industry.
Matthies is in his 11th year on the Board of Directors for the Kansas and Missouri Chapter of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and has contributed his time to the Kansas City community as a youth sports coach over the years. Matthies graduated from Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb. with a degree in sport management and later earned his MBA from Park University in Parkville, Mo.
