"So…What Holds Up Your Sky?" (#87)
Mixed Medium on Canvas
In this work, the artist creates the feeling of walking barefoot through a lawn in the field of grass above the horizon line. He imparts a feeling of freedom and freshness. This painting is part of a series which explores the relationship between things we know, recognize or feel and the support systems that steady them in place for us.
Many of Quackenbush's works are divided by a horizon line. The area above the horizon line represents open and public space. The area below the horizon line, constructed using an abstract piece of architecture that helps us stay comfortable that what we see will always be there, equates to the private and personal.
Quackenbush has resided in the Kansas City area since 2006.
