NEW FACES IN STARTING LINEUP:Rookies CB Marcus Peters and C Mitch Morse both notched their first NFL starts in the Chiefs season opening game. OL Laurent Duvernay-Tardif started his first game he's seen action in since being drafted by the Chiefs in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. WR Jeremy Maclin, G Ben Grubbs and OL Jah Reid started their first game wearing a Chiefs uniform.

PETERS HOT START: CB Marcus Peters intercepted the first pass attempt by Texans QB Brian Hoyer, setting up the offense at the Houston 13-yard line. Peters finished the game with seven tackles (five solo) and three passes defensed with one interception.

SMITH CONNECTS ON THREE TD PASSES: QB Alex Smith connected with TE Travis Kelce on two TD passes and RB Jamaal Charles on one, giving him three TDs in today's contest, which is the first time he has recorded three TDs in a game since playing the Patriots on Monday Night Football last season (9/29/14) and the 14th time he's thrown for three or more TDs in his career. Smith is 10-4 in games he has thrown for three or more TDs. Smith finished the game completing 22 of 33 passes (67%) for 243 yards with three TDs and no INTs, good for a 118.6 passer rating. It marks the 21st time in his career he has logged a 100.0 or better rating as a starter in the regular season with 20 or more pass attempts. He is 20-1 in those games.

CHARLES IN RECORD BOOK: RB Jamaal Charles caught a seven-yard pass from QB Alex Smith, the only play of the touchdown drive, notching his first TD of the 2015 season and 59th in his career. Charles moved into fifth place in the Chiefs all-time TD list with 59 touchdowns. Charles finished the day with 16 rushes for 57 yards and five catches for 46 yards and one TD, giving his 103 yards from scrimmage, which marks the 51st time he has recorded 100 or more yards from scrimmage in a contest.

KELCE'S CAREER DAY: TE Travis Kelce recorded six catches for a 106 yards and two TDs, which is the first multi-touchdown game of his career and his second career game of 100 or more receiving yards. His 42-yard TD catch marks the longest pass reception of his career. With TE Travis Kelce's two receiving touchdowns, it marks only the 24th game in franchise history where a tight end recorded two or more receiving touchdowns. TE Tony Gonzalez recorded 14 such games, Fred Arbanas had seven, while Kelce joins Jonathan Hayes and Walter White with one multi- touchdown game each. Travis Kelce is the 1st Chiefs player with multiple receiving touchdowns in a season opener in 20 years (Willie Davis in 1995).

SANTOS ON OPENING DAY: Santos contributed nine points to today's contest as he booted 27- and 48-yard field goals and three extra points. He also recorded touchbacks on all six of his kickoffs.

COLQUITT REMAINS SPECIAL FOR CHIEFS SPECIAL TEAMS: P Dustin Colquitt recorded seven punts for 307 yards (43.9 avg., 36.1 net) with four landing inside the 20-yard line, bringing his career total to 320, which is the Chiefs all-time record.

SACK CITY: A total of four players contributed to the five sacks in today's contest. DT Jaye Howard took down QB Brian Hoyer for a loss of eight yards, notching his second-career NFL sack. Two plays later, LB Justin Houston sacked Hoyer for a loss of nine yards, stripping the ball as DL Allen Bailey secured the fumble recovery to give the offense the ball at the Texans 7-yard line. Bailey recorded 2.0 sacks (-10.0 yards) in today's contest, taking down both Hoyer and QB Ryan Mallett to record a career- high in sacks. LB Derrick Johnson also sacked Hoyer for a nine-yard loss. Justin Houston has recorded at least 1.0 sack in the last seven games, dating back to Week 12 at Oakland of the 2014 season.

STOUT DEFENSE: The Chiefs defense forced the Texans into six three-and-outs and held them to a 21% (3 of14) completion percentage on third down. Also, Kansas City held strong on fourth down, forcing the Texans to turn the ball over on downs at the Chiefs 11-yard line in the third quarter. The Chiefs were strong in the red zone, holding on 2 of 4 (50%) attempts inside the red zone.

JOHNSON NARROWS IN ON KC TACKLE RECORD: LB Derrick Johnson recorded eight tackles (six solo), including two for loss, in today's game, passing Art Still to secure second place on the team's all-time tackle list. He now has 993 tackles, and is seven shy of passing LB Gary Spani at 999 total tackles.

PENALTIES: The Chiefs were charged with just two penalties for 25 yards, which is the lowest number of penalties recorded since the team had one for five yards at San Diego on Dec. 29, 2013.

REID AGAINST TEXANS: Head Coach Andy Reid continues to be undefeated against the Texans, with a 5-0 record.

CHIEFS DOMINATE TIME OF POSSESSION: The Chiefs held a 35:19 to 24:41 advantage in time of possession over the Texans in today's game.
