The Kansas City Chiefs came out on the winning end of a thrilling bout with the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday afternoon, earning their AFC-leading 11th victory of the season and securing a playoff spot in the process.
There's still plenty of work to do in terms of seeding, but the Chiefs are headed to the postseason for a fourth year in a row.
"I want to congratulate the team, Coach Reid and his staff on a hard-fought win today against a very good Baltimore Ravens football team, and I also want to congratulate the team on qualifying for the playoffs," said Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt following the game. "This is a tremendous achievement for Coach Reid – making the playoffs in five out of six years with the Chiefs."
The Chiefs can now turn their attention towards earning the top seed in the AFC – and homefield advantage throughout the playoffs - with three regular-season games remaining. The next step in that process is winning the AFC West crown for a third-consecutive year, which Kansas City can accomplish with a victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday night.
"It's always great for the fans. We have the most fantastic fanbase in the world and I think today was a great example of that. It was pretty cold out there, but the stadium was full and it definitely played a role in helping us get a win today," Hunt said. "We would love to be able to reward our fans, not only with one home playoff game, but hopefully, with a second one as well in the AFC Championship Game. I know our fans would have a big part in helping us win it."
