Only five months after leading the Kansas City Chiefs to a second-straight Super Bowl title, quarterback Patrick Mahomes went back-to-back in a pair of ESPY award categories on Thursday.
Mahomes, who won "Best Male Athlete" and "Best NFL Player" honors at last year's event, took home both awards yet again this year following a campaign in which he led Kansas City to its third championship in five seasons.
The 28-year-old Mahomes threw for 4,183 yards and 27 touchdowns in 16 regular-season games last year before assembling another unforgettable playoff run. In fact, Mahomes' 15 career postseason wins now trail only Tom Brady (35) and Joe Montana (16) among starting quarterbacks in NFL history.
Mahomes also owns the league marks for touchdown passes (219) and passing yards (28,424) through 100 career regular-season games in NFL history, and he did so despite only starting 96 games so far in his career.
It's all to say that Mahomes is already one of the greatest players to ever play the game, and with training camp just a few days away, he'll have an opportunity to build on his immense legacy in 2024.
