The leadership team of the back-to-back World Champion Kansas City Chiefs today announced the formation of Foolish Club Studios, a new studio focused on developing original scripted and unscripted content for short-form and long-form storytelling.
Building on the legacy of American sports pioneer and Kansas City Chiefs founder Lamar Hunt, the studio will prioritize telling unique stories that not only highlight the rich, deep history of the franchise, the characters that have defined it and its position within the Kansas City and global communities, but also stories that reflect the spirit of humility, heart, and hard work that have been part of the team's heritage since the beginning.
The announcement follows the football team's historic, third-straight AFC Championship victory, resulting in hoisting another Lamar Hunt Trophy (so named by the NFL in 1984 to honor Lamar's impact on the sport) as the team heads to an unprecedented attempt to win three Super Bowls in a row.
Building on the success of the Hallmark Channel collaboration Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story – the number one cable movie of 2024 – along with viral online hits like the holiday Claymation short A Kingdom Christmas Story: Hail Merry (nearly one million views), the Chiefs have formalized their entertainment efforts by launching a dedicated studio to oversee production and development of stories that transcend football and sport.
The name of the studio is a tribute to Lamar Hunt and his resilience in forming the American Football League, where the eight original team owners called themselves the "Foolish Club" because they were crazy enough to take on the firmly entrenched National Football League. This spirit of risk-taking and innovation has been a stalwart of the franchise since day one, and as Lamar himself said, "Dream big and set audacious goals. It's only by aiming high that we can reach our full potential." The logo even includes a special nod to Lamar, as the word "studio" was inspired by Lamar's handwritten letters.
"Foolish Club Studios is a tribute to my father in so many ways," said Clark Hunt, Chairman and CEO of the Kansas City Chiefs. "My father constantly pushed boundaries and inspired innovative thinking, and that is exactly the ethos we expect this new studio to embrace as we expand our ambitions in storytelling and continue to make the game more accessible to our fans."
"We are thrilled to launch Foolish Club Studios and are excited for what this new business represents in our ability to explore amazing stories of hard work, innovation, perseverance, humility, sportsmanship, fandom, and more," team President Mark Donovan added. "Storytelling around sports captivated Lamar, and we believe the studio will capture the heart and soul of his vision and allow us to connect with individuals around the world in new and unique ways, regardless of their fandom."
The Chiefs have reached new heights, making their third-consecutive Super Bowl appearance, and off the field they hit several major milestones, including surpassing one million subscribers on their official YouTube channel at the end of December. This achievement made them the first NFL team – and only the second American professional sports team (Golden State Warriors) – to reach this mark.
Foolish Club Studios is part of the club's on-going strategic investment in media development and growing the brand internationally. The studio will be complementary to the club's existing 65 Toss Power Trap (65TPT) Production group – the award-winning, in-house production arm of the team – which will continue to generate both short-form and long-form football and club content for the core football fan.
Foolish Club Studios joins a growing portfolio of business ventures from the leadership of the Kansas City Chiefs, which includes Arrowhead Events – the special events arm of the organization and GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium – as well as Chiefs Fit – the multi-location, team-themed fitness and recovery center concept.
The studio will be launching a new website at FoolishClubStudios.com where you can register now to receive more information.
