Here's What to Know About Voter Registration in Missouri and Kansas

The upcoming General Election is on November 5

The opportunity for every American citizen to have their voice heard is the defining characteristic that makes our country so special. It's a sacred duty that provides the people of the United States with the chance to dictate our future as a nation.

The voting process, however, can be confusing and complicated. Here's a quick rundown of how to register to vote, what identification documents are required to obtain a ballot and how to find your polling location, plus some additional relevant information.

When is the deadline to register to vote in the General Election on November 5?

Missouri: The deadline to register in Missouri is October 9.

Kansas: The deadline to register in Kansas is October 15.

What are the voter identification requirements in Missouri and Kansas?

Missouri: One of the following non-expired documents is required to obtain your ballot:

  • A Missouri driver or non-driver license
  • A military ID, including a veteran's ID card
  • A U.S. passport
  • Another photo ID issued by the U.S. or the state of Missouri

Kansas: One of the following is required to obtain your ballot. If the photo ID has an expiration date on it, the ID must not have expired at the time of voting. An accepted photo ID does not have to have an expiration date on the document in order to be valid:

  • A Driver's license or ID card issued by Kansas or other state
  • A U.S. Passport
  • A U.S. Military ID
  • An ID card issued by a Native American tribe
  • Employee badge or ID issued by a government office
  • Student ID card from an accredited postsecondary education institute in Kansas
  • Concealed carry license issued by Kansas or another state
  • Public assistance ID card issued by a government office

When does advance voting begin?

Kansas: Advance voting (both in-person and by mail) begins in Kansas on October 16.
