Four Members of the Chiefs Earn All-Pro Honors

The AP First and Second Team All-Pro honors were announced on Friday

The annual Associated Press First and Second Team All-Pro honors were announced on Friday with four members of the Kansas City Chiefs earning spots across both squads.

Safety Tyrann Mathieu was selected as a First-Team All-Pro at defensive back, marking his second-career nomination to the first team (2015). Mathieu tallied 75 tackles, 12 passes defensed, four interceptions and three tackles-for-loss in 2019 while leading the Chiefs' defense to a top-10 ranking statistically.

Here's more from the folks at Pro Football Focus on Mathieu's elite play this year:

Mathieu also earned a spot on the second team at safety, joining tight end Travis Kelce, right tackle Mitchell Schwartz and return man Mecole Hardman on the second squad.

Kelce led all tight ends in receptions (97) and receiving yards (1,229) while setting numerous NFL records in 2019, which included becoming the first tight end to ever tally four-straight 1,000-yard seasons.

Schwartz, meanwhile, turned in another brilliant campaign while extending his streak of consecutive games started to 128 straight contests. According to Pro Football Focus, Schwartz allowed just one sack and five quarterback hits all season.

Kansas City Chiefs Offensive Lineman Mitchell Schwartz (71) during the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium.

Rounding out the Chiefs' selections is Hardman, who earned a spot on the second team at kick returner. The electric Hardman finished fifth in the NFL with a 26.1-yard average while handling kick return duties, and just last week, he tallied the longest return in the league this season with a 104-yard touchdown against Los Angeles.

All four players will be back in action next weekend as the Chiefs kick off the Divisional Round of the postseason at Arrowhead Stadium.
