On Friday, the Kansas City Chiefs announced plans for the club's Fantennial weekend, part of the year-long NFL100 celebration, with festivities taking place throughout the weekend of the team's Oct. 6 game vs. the Indianapolis Colts.
As part of NFL100, the Chiefs gave fans the opportunity to win season tickets for the 2019 season by participating in the "Greatest Moment Sweepstakes." Fans were encouraged to visit a special site on www.chiefs.com to vote on one of four videos as the greatest moment in franchise history. When fans voted, they were automatically entered for the chance to win season tickets for the franchise's 60th season.
Voting is now closed, and the moment with the most votes will be revealed to fans in-stadium during the Chiefs Fantennial game against the Colts on Sunday, Oct. 6. In addition, Kansas City's greatest moment will be entered into a league-led vote to find the NFL's greatest moment, which will be announced at NFL Honors in Miami on Saturday, Feb. 1. The winner of the 2019 Chiefs season tickets will be unveiled on the club's social media channels.
Kansas City's Fantennial weekend will officially begin on Friday, Oct. 4 when the Chiefs visit Lincoln College Preparatory Academy for the school's homecoming football game. The Chiefs already kicked off their NFL100 celebration this summer at Lincoln College Prep when members of the organization, including Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt, the Chiefs Rookie Club and staff visited the school for cleaning, painting and landscaping projects. The team also helped the Lincoln College Prep Blue Tigers prepare their helmets for the upcoming high school football season.
In the return visit to Lincoln College Prep, Chiefs executives and former players will help christen a brand-new synthetic turf field that was made possible through a $250,000 grant from the Chiefs, LISC and the NFL Foundation. The homecoming game will be the first competition on the new field. The Chiefs organization will also unveil a historical marker at the former site of Municipal Stadium, the first home of the Chiefs when the team moved to Kansas City in 1963, which is adjacent to the school's football stadium.
On Saturday, Oct. 5, the Chiefs will host the Fantennial 5K and FanFest presented by GEHA at Arrowhead Stadium. Registration is now open at www.chiefs.com/schedule/event-calendar/fantennial-5k-and-fanfest-presented-by-geha. A portion of the race proceeds will benefit Lincoln College Prep. Each participant will receive an NFL100-branded medal and shirt to commemorate the special race. The race route takes runners around the Truman Sports Complex and will conclude in Lot M outside Arrowhead Stadium, where FanFest will be taking place. Open to 5K participants and their guests, FanFest will feature music, food, beverages, tailgate games and much more.
Fantennial weekend will conclude on Sunday, Oct. 6 with the club's annual Legends Game presented by Empower Retirement. The Chiefs will host the Indianapolis Colts on NBC's Sunday Night Football, with kickoff scheduled for 7:20 p.m. During the game, the club's greatest moment, as voted on by Chiefs fans, will be revealed inside Arrowhead Stadium. At halftime, the Chiefs will officially induct former offensive lineman Brian Waters into the team's Hall of Fame and his name will be unveiled in the Ring of Honor.
In addition to participating in the Chiefs Fantennial 5K and FanFest, fans are encouraged to join the NFL100 celebration by donating their time to make meaningful contributions to their communities. The NFL is driving a season-long competition by awarding monthly community-focused prizes to top-ranking clubs based on volunteer minutes. Chiefs fans are invited to boost the Chiefs' ranking by volunteering and logging their own minutes using the Chiefs Huddle for 100 hashtag, #ChiefsHuddleFor100. A community-focused grand prize will be awarded to the club with the most volunteer minutes at the end of the season.
Throughout the Huddle for 100 initiative, the NFL will give participating fans the chance to win a variety of prizes, including game tickets, team gear or a monetary donation to a charity they select when they track their participating on the Huddle for 100 website, www.nfl.com/100/huddlefor100. Fans can also share their volunteer efforts on social media using both the #NFLHuddleFor100 and #Sweepstakes hashtags. Visit www.nfl.com/huddlefor100 or follow #NFLHuddleFor100 to get involved and learn more about Huddle for 100. Fans can visit www.nfl.com/100 for more information about the NFL100 campaign.
