Linebacker Drue Tranquill will return to Kansas City next season after re-signing with the back-to-back defending Super Bowl champions on Wednesday.
Tranquill – who appeared in 16 regular-season games for the Chiefs last year – tallied 79 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in 2023. He was versatile, too, lining up at multiple spots over the course of the year. In fact, Tranquill took over as the Chiefs' defensive signal-caller when fellow linebacker Nick Bolton missed a handful of games due to injury mid-season.
"There's just an energy in Kansas City. Everybody loves football," Tranquill said. "There's like a childlike hunger here that can sometimes get lost as you go on in your career, and I felt like I found that again in some ways last year…I just enjoyed the process of [being here]."
The five-year veteran was a major component of a Chiefs' defense that yielded the second-fewest points in the league last season, and after a year to remember in 2023, Tranquill will return for Kansas City's title-defense campaign.
