The Kansas City Chiefs are once again well-represented at the annual ESPY Awards with three nominations: "Best Team," "Best Male Athlete" (Patrick Mahomes) and "Best NFL Player" (Patrick Mahomes).
The back-to-back defending Super Bowl champions, who won "Best Team" at last year's event, are once again nominated in that same category this year. The other nominees for "Best Team" are below:
- South Carolina Gamecocks, NCAA Women's Basketball
- Michigan Wolverines, NCAA Football
- Las Vegas Aces, WNBA
- University of Connecticut Huskies, NCAA Men's Basketball
- Oklahoma Sooners, NCAA Softball
- Boston Celtics, NBA
- Florida Panthers, NHL
- Texas Rangers, MLB
The Chiefs' other two nominations are specifically for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who recently became the first player to win back-to-back Super MVP Awards since Terry Bradshaw did so in Super Bowls XIII and XIV. Mahomes' first nomination is for "Best Male Athlete," which he won last year. Joining Mahomes in the "Best Male Athlete" category is the Los Angeles Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani, professional golfer Scottie Scheffler and the Edmonton Oilers' Connor McDavid.
Mahomes is also up for "Best NFL Player," which he also won last summer. He's joined by Browns' defensive end Myles Garrett, Ravens' quarterback Lamar Jackson and 49ers' running back Christian McCaffrey in the category.
