The Kansas City Chiefs fell to the Houston Texans, 17-10, on Thursday night as the two teams kicked off the preseason at Arrowhead Stadium.
Chiefs' quarterback Patrick Mahomes played the entirety of the first quarter, completing five of seven passes for 33 yards in two drives of action.
The Texans jumped out to an early lead when quarterback Brandon Weeden found tight end Jordan Akins for a six-yard touchdown late in the first quarter. The duo connected for another score on the Texans' next drive, extending Houston's advantage.
Veteran quarterback Chad Henne, who took over at the beginning of the second quarter, led the Chiefs on their lone touchdown-scoring drive of the contest, finding wide receiver Demarcus Robinson for a 24-yard score late in the first half.
It was part of a strong night for Robinson, who led all receivers with 48 yards through the air on three catches.
Kicker Harrison Butker added a 32-yard field goal midway through the second half to complete the scoring for Kansas City.
Kansas City will continue the preseason on Aug. 17 as the Chiefs travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons.
