Kansas City Chiefs Team Preview
Coming off their third Super Bowl win in the last five years, the Kansas City Chiefs are riding an unbelievable high. With back-to-back victories under their belt, they're hoping their offseason will help propel them to their third straight appearance, which takes place in New Orleans, Louisiana.
While this wasn't the busiest offseason the Chiefs have had, it was a meaningful one. After placing the franchise tag on elite corner L'Jarius Sneed, the Chiefs traded him to the Titans for a 2025 third-round pick and a swap of 2024 seventh-round picks. The Chiefs are confident that Steve Spagnuolo will continue to draft and develop cornerbacks.
While the Sneed move was big, the Chiefs also made significant moves at the wide receiver position.
The Chiefs would trade up to pick 28 and grab Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy. He's expected to be an extraordinary compliment to Rashee Rice and the newly signed Marquise Brown, giving Patrick Mahomes a plethora of options to target. These speedy receivers will likely propel Mahomes' aDOT (average distance of target) which was at 6.8 last season. Over the course of his career, Mahomes' aDOT averaged 8.2. With the newfound speed on offense, we could see some of those vintage downfield shots Mahomes has been so good with throughout his seven-year career.
With a revamped receiver group and the consistency of Travis Kelce, the Chiefs are once again projected to top the AFC West. No other team in the league is as heavily favored to win their division as the Chiefs are at -230. This line implies a 69.7% chance of the Chiefs to win the division. Next in line would be the Chargers at +320, which is an implied chance of 23.8%. The Chiefs also have the best chance to win the AFC Conference at +300 (25%) and a three-peat as Super Bowl winners at +500 (16.6%).
