Chiefs Offseason Workouts Preview: Checking Out the Specialists

Here’s a look at the three specialists participating in the Chiefs’ Organized Team Activities (OTAs)

There aren't any surprises when it comes to the specialists as Organized Team Activities get underway later this month.

The trio of punter Dustin Colquitt, kicker Harrison Butker and long snapper James Winchester are currently the only players at their respective positions on the roster after a strong season from each.

The timeless Colquitt, now entering his 14th campaign, was as effective as ever in 2017 with a 45.2 net punting average and 29 kicks dropped inside the 20-yard line. His 1,031 career punts are the most in franchise history.

At 14 years Colquitt's junior, Butker has set a few records of his own already. The place kicker joined Kansas City prior to Week 4 of last season and didn't miss a beat the rest of the way, connecting on a franchise-most 38 of 42 field goal attempts.

And as exciting as it likely was to debut on Monday Night Football, Butker now has a chance to have an entire offseason under his belt with Special Teams Coordinator Dave Toub.

Delivering both Colquitt and Butker the ball is long snapper James Winchester, who is entering his fourth season with the team. A master of his craft, Winchester doesn't often hear his name called – a positive for a long snapper – though he turned that narrative on its head in Week 2 of last season by forcing a fumble in coverage.
